From Yoga to 130 Burpees: Katie’s CrossFit Journey in Columbus, Ohio

When Katie first joined CrossFit Expedition in Columbus, Ohio, she wasn’t coming from a traditional strength training background. Instead, yoga had been her primary form of exercise for years.

While yoga helped her improve flexibility, balance, and mindfulness, she was looking for a new challenge. More specifically, she wanted to build strength, improve her endurance, and discover what she was truly capable of accomplishing.

As a result, she decided to step outside her comfort zone and try CrossFit.

At first, the transition wasn’t easy. Like many people who are new to CrossFit, Katie had to learn new movements, become comfortable lifting weights, and push through workouts that challenged her both physically and mentally. However, she stayed consistent, trusted the coaching process, and continued showing up.

Over time, her hard work began to pay off.

Not only did Katie become stronger, but her endurance improved dramatically as well. Workouts that once felt intimidating gradually became opportunities to test her limits and celebrate her progress. Furthermore, she gained confidence with every milestone she achieved.

One of the best examples of her transformation came during our June Burpee Challenge.

The challenge consisted of 12 minutes of burpees over the bar using intervals of 45 seconds of work followed by 15 seconds of rest. While the format sounds simple, it quickly becomes a demanding test of cardiovascular endurance, muscular stamina, and mental toughness.

Nevertheless, Katie rose to the occasion.

By the end of the challenge, she had completed an incredible 130 burpees over the bar—one of the top scores in the entire gym.

More importantly, that score represented far more than just a number.

It was proof of how much stronger and fitter she had become since beginning her CrossFit journey. In addition, it highlighted the power of consistency and the results that can come from embracing new challenges.

Katie’s story is a reminder that fitness success isn’t about where you start. Rather, it’s about being willing to take the first step and continuing to show up even when progress feels slow.
